Intrepid Short Walkers

Despite a temperature reaching the late 20’s, 18 adventurers set out from Norwood Golf Club to do a 4-mile walk around Southwell. Fortunately our leader had modified the walk (the day before) to afford us shade for the second half and to slightly shorten the length. So with numerous water stops and a leisurely pace survival was ensured.
The first part of the walk was through the quaint village of Maythorne, then over the river Greet, some walkers suggested we should walk in it rather than alongside it, to arrive in Southwell where a much appreciated break was taken in the Minsters grounds. Following great efforts to make the other 17 get back onto their feet our leader led the second half through wooded and sheltered terrain.
Can you all remember the Beatles song Strawberry Fields Forever?  That was how the walk ended through strawberry fields as far as the eye could see, despite the weather we even expected to see Santa as the strawberry pickers use sledges to move the produce around the farm. The morning was rounded off with a well-deserved drink and a meal at the Club House.
