Burrows Garden Visit

Gardening Group Visit

The Gardening Group got off to a great start with a visit to Burrows gardens near Ashbourne.  A family home and farm over many years, the present owner, Craig Dalton, has lived here for 27 years and devoted himself to creating what is today a wonderful garden.
After tea and cakes he guided us around the garden, explaining how each area developed and the joys and problems involved.  Very clever planting is evident everywhere, with carefully chosen shrubs trees and flowers so that the right plant shapes, colours, height and foliage have a stunning effect on visitors.  Sleek, totally weed-free lawns had us all talking about the state of our own lawns, and wondering how he managed it.
In spite of a dodgy weather forecast, the sun came out, and we were able to explore the garden, sit and enjoy the views and wish we lived there.
A visit to the garden centre at Little Eaton followed where we enjoyed lunch and, in spite of our best intentions, did some shopping before leaving for home.  We all agreed what a superb day it had been.  Congratulations to Janet Gibson for organising our visit so very thoroughly and effectively.  Particularly well done for avoiding the day when the naturists visited the garden.  We all shuddered at the thought and said we wouldn’t cope ….. or would we ?……….
