Choir sings in Newstead Abbey

The weather was balmy, the venue atmospheric, the audience full of anticipation when Hucknall & District U3A Choir sang in the Great Hall in Newstead Abbey as part of the 100th anniversary of WI.
Their performance was exceptional as they sang songs from around the world, starting in the USA visiting Germany for a lullaby, then New Zealand, onto Scotland and back to the USA for ‘New York, New York’ their rendition making me tingle with pride.

The perfume in the rooms of the Abbey was heady, from the flower arrangements celebrating Inspiring Women, local ladies included Rebecca Adlington, Ada Lovelace and Mary Green, the healer, born in Hucknall, but the theme spread to Myanmar (Burma) with Aung San Suu Kyi the opposition politician who was under house arrest for fifteen years. To compliment the flowers, patchwork and tapestry pieces where displayed on the furniture.
Thank you very much to our Choir for giving their time, to Doreen Newton for being Coordinator. Thank you to Christine, their Musical Director and her husband for their time and we must not forget our member Margaret Craig who plays the ‘piano’ for them and her husband who is always their to support her. Thank you on behalf of all Hucknall & District Members.
