Cycling Group in October

Hucknall U3A Cycle Group
October has been another fine month for cycling, the only minor exception being on the 8th when the group were caught in a deluge of rain which was so heavy that they opted to get back and miss the cafe stop. However despite being more than a little wet they completed the ride. Other rides this month have been the Newstead and Annesley Trail, Bestwood Country Park and Bulwell Bogs, Strelley and on to Kimberley, Annesley to Moorgreen Resevoir and then to Beauvale Priory. They are all circular rides which start and finish in Hucknall.
On the 5th Wednesday, the 29th, 8 members completed a longer ride of 24 miles ably led by John Saunders. This took us south from Hucknall on National Cycle Network Route 6 (NCN6) an interesting mix of urban and rural environments essentially via the Leen Valley Way to the Nottingham Canal and Beeston Marina for a short coffee stop.
The cafe at the marina makes an interesting visit with many articles about Nottingham and photographs and stories, old and new, of Nottinghamshire events and personalities.
The return was partly back via the canal, then to a busy Wollaton Hall for a lunch stop before setting off for the final leg on route 6 back to Hucknall.
