Music Appreciation Group Starts

The first meeting of the music appreciation group took place on Wednesday the 23rd September at the home of John Peters. John had prepared a very full and varied programme of 20 pieces of music for us which ranged from “The Floral Dance” by the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band to classical guitar virtuoso John Williams with “Air on a G String”. We had a break after the first 10 items for a bite to eat and a drink, which John had kindly laid on for us. The second half of the evening started with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra through to Joyce Didonato and “Over the Rainbow “. Don’t ask me how but we even managed to squeeze in such contemporary music as the Carpenters “For All we Know” and “ Rumour” then ended with Eva Cassidy with “Over The Rainbow”.
If that wasn’t enough we also managed to sort out the format for future meetings, which will involve the first half of the evening dedicated to one type of music or a specific artist and the second half being more of a “mixed bag”. I can say without doubt it was one of the most relaxing evenings I have spent. I went home feeling very chilled out, all of this in less than 2 hours. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Our next meeting is on Tuesday 28th October 7pm to 9pm at John’s home. See information board for details.
