Short Walks August and September

SHORT WALKS GROUP
A walk along seemingly secret, undiscovered paths was a real treat for the short walk group’s August ramble. The four and a half mile walk [four and three quarters for one kind knight in shining armour who went back down the hill for a damsel’s forgotten walking pole] took us around Farnsfield with a lovely view over fields stretching away to the North as we came out of the woods. A detour to the Halifax Bomber Memorial marking the crash site of a returning bomber, although 2nd World War, was still a fitting reminder of the casualties of war in this year of remembrance.
Our next foray on Thursday 18th September, starting at 10.00a.m. is a 5ml walk from Hoveringham -about 2hrs 20mins with a few stiles & all on the flat. Starting from Ferry Farm, walk a short distance north on river bank to bomber memorial then swing left & walk to village & then across fields etc to Caythorpe eventually we return via Trent pastures to Ferry Farm for a meal for those who wish to stay.
This will be an ideal walk for anyone who would like to join or try out this group. We meet at the starting point, but lifts can be arranged for those without transport.
