The History Group always welcomes all U3A members. Our usual meeting place is Central Methodist Church: Time 2pm – 4pm ish. Meetings are now in the Church Room which it is hoped will be much better for those members who have hearing problems. I have asked for us to continue with this booking.
The visit to Doddington Hall worked perfectly from the start with a good outbound journey to the eventual return back to Hucknall. We were met by three guides who split us up and made sure we saw all the important rooms with the relevant information of the history of the building and families who lived in the hall. This meant we were able to enjoy a private viewing before the general public were allowed into the building. There were lots of interesting artifacts, pictures and china, etc. but I particularly liked the ‘Forgotten Room’. Perfect weather meant strolling around the gardens was a delightful experience; seeing the three sweet chestnut trees, older than the house itself, was amazing; as was the choice of a café, tea room and farm shop to buy picnics if we wanted to eat in the grounds.
The group now has a break for the summer and will commence the autumn season in September, 2022.
Also we will taking bookings for the trip to Derby Museum costing £10. Kath has decided to retire from helping with visits but Kathy will continue as usual.

No meeting July or August – Holidays
September 21st, 2022 – Denis Hill is coming to talk about Victorian Housing Conditions which is a century or so before most of the bureaucracy and health and safety rules came into being. It would cover the lifetimes of our great grandparents.
October 19th, 2022 – Visit to Derby Museum and Art Gallery. We will have a talk about Joseph Wright of Derby (Famous artist) then a self guided tour of the museum. Leave Hucknall 1 pm. Leave Derby 5 pm. Arrive Hucknall 5.45pm (ish) Cost £10
November 16th, 2022 Trevor Lee is coming to talk to us. He usually provides us with mind pictures of entertainers; sometimes even their voices. Lots of reminiscing at this meeting.
