Short Walks January

The weather stayed fine for our Christmas walk as 25 brave souls braved the wind and mud on a 4 mile walk around Annesley. Sue Cooper was especially brave as she fell and hurt her wrist on a slippery step – hope you are OK now. Despite being on our doorstep we ambled along paths that we didn’t know were there and had never been on before. We then enjoyed a festive lunch at the Badger Box pub, but were sad when two of our walkers couldn’t join us as they had not booked – hope you enjoyed the walk though.
My thanks go to Bob and Enid Monk who led an interesting walk around the perimeter of Rolls Royce in November. It was particularly interesting as possibly by
this time next year the Rolls Royce airstrip will be covered by houses and light industry. Thanks also to those who have kindly led a walk over the past year – we’ve had some crackers; who can forget Paul’s 72 steps!? John Ellis has kindly agreed to arrange March 2015’s walk, but if we can all share the load of organising walks then we will have another great year of short walks.
Our next ‘outing’ on 15th January 2015 is a bit longer than normal and should blow the Christmas cobwebs away. We will meet at The Horse and Groom, Linby, at 10.00 for the 6 mile circuit of Newstead Abbey, hopefully stopping for a coffee at the Abbey and arriving back at the pub for lunch around 1.00 p.m. Come and join us on the day as everyone is welcome –no list to fill in, just turn up!
Happy New Year to you all.
Helen Rose
