Visit to the Tram Control Room

On a wet and windy Wednesday in January some of the Pot Luck group along with a few other U3a members visited the Tram Control Room at Wilkinson Street. What an eye opener! We were met in reception by Trevor and taken to the meeting room, pausing en-route to look down upon trams being serviced/repaired in the workshops. We were given tea/coffee then shown a brief film shown in time lapse of the QMC and Station bridges being put in place. Amazing! This was followed by some slides and a talk by Trevor about various aspects of the tram network. Of course we had myriads of questions for him, all of which he answered very patiently. He then took us into the actual Control Room which is the beating heart of the tram network. Fascinating doesn’t even cover it. I for one could have stopped there all day but all good things must come to an end and eventually it was time for us to leave, for most of us returning back to Hucknall on the tram of course!
Should any other group wish to organise a similar visit the people to contact are Customer Services tel 0115 942 7777 or emailinfo@thetram.net . Trevor can accommodate groups of 10-15 people but there is not a lot of room to spare in the Control Room so smaller groups are preferable. There is no charge for the visits but you will have to fit in with available dates as apart from a busy schedule Trevor does go out to various organisations to educate them about the tram network.
